Documentation (overview)
		The BALANS land cover dataset has been assembled
	from satellite data from the IRS 1C/1D WiFS satellite.
	The reference data has been collected from national
	sources. Note that the product is not homogenous due
	to that. The approach has been to produce the best possible
	product pixelwise within the frame of the BALANS project
	The quality of the product is still homogenous within
	a country though.
		The original BALANS land cover dataset has
	been generalised to produce this dataset. The generalised
	version has a pixel size of 10 hectares for the class
	water bodies, and 25 ha for remaining classes, meaning
	that a single pixel can not have a different class than 
	its neighbours.
		Also -- the two classess 'Coniferous forest' and
	'Deciduous forest' have been merged into the class
	'Forest', and the classes 'Agricultural land' and
	'Seminatural areas' have been merged into 'Open land'.
	The class 'Bare rock' has disappeared during the generalisation
	process.
		Note that the cell size is still the same,
	150 x 150 metres.
