About Kari Synnøve Johansen

As a Norwegian with an academic background in political science, I became interested in the intersection between nature, society and governance early on. At GRID-Arendal I have had the opportunity to combine these interests by working on issues such as ocean management, ecosystem services, sustainable development and environmental crime.

While the projects that I work on differ thematically, they all share important elements of capacity building, information sharing and digital innovation, often through working with partner organisations in developing countries. This is also one of the things I enjoy the most about working in GRID-Arendal. In addition, being able to work with a diverse and highly motivated team to promote collective action on environmental challenges feels highly rewarding.

I have previously worked with sustainable development projects, communications and international cooperation in the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) as well as communications and marketing in Adlibris. I hold an MSc in Global Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where I specialized in global environmental governance, globalization, and peace building and conflict. I hold a BA in Political Science from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
